Star Trek 40th Con LV

Dragon*Con
Atlanta, GA - Sep 4th - 7th

***Highlights from my second Dragon*Con***
September 3, 2009

I arrived in Atlanta a little before 3:00pm and went ahead and checked into my hotel - The Wyndham Garden Hotel.  Pre-registration was supposed to start at 4:00pm at the Sheraton, but apparently they opened it up early.  So I went to the Sheraton for Pre-registration.  I was able to pre-register by 4:30pm.  After I pre-registered, I met Roger Manley of the Trek Prop Zone forum.  We talked props for some time while he was waiting in the Ticketmaster line.

Later on we decided to eat at Houston's restaurant.  On the way to the car,  this is what we saw...

The Pre-registration line grew.  The Sheraton is just across the street from The Wyndham.  The entrance to the Sheraton is up the hill  a ways and then its in one of two different ball rooms.  Registration did not close until 11:45pm according to one of the volunteers I spoke with.

While at Houston's, I had their fall off the bone BarBQ Ribs.  Those are about the best ribs I have ever had with the exception of Smokey Bones' ribs in Newnan, GA.

Got up pretty early and met Roger for breakfast at the Sheraton.  After that, we headed onto the William Shatner/Leonard Nimoy panel at the Hyatt Regency.  The panel did not start until 10:00am, but we got in line a little after 8:00am.  The line was already wrapped around the Hyatt.

We were in the ballroom by 9:00am.  Here are a few photos prior to the panel and thanks to Roger for his pictures.

It was getting closer to the panel to start.  The crowd was with much anticipation to see their legendary actors live.  Here is the introduction of the panel.

Thanks to Roger for allowing me to use his photos.  Here are some shots during the panel.

Most of the panel was filled with humor and was just plain hilarious.  You can read a more about the panel here.  After the panel, I had to head to the Marriott for a Photo-Op with Nimoy/Shatner.

I had brought along a replica of Dr Theopolis from the Buck Rogers TV series just in case Gil Gerard wanted to display him on his table.  After the photo-op, I luckily ran into Gil while at the Marriott.  We chatted a few moments and I asked him if he would like to display a replica of Dr Theopolis on his table at the Walk of Fame and he said yes.  We planned for "Theo" to be displayed Saturday and Sunday.

After that, I had to grab some food and then I  was off to the Dirk Benedict/Dwight Schultz panel.

After the  Dirk Benedict/Dwight Schultz panel, I was off to see the Anthony Daniels panel.  It was disappointing, we waited just over 30 minutes and he never showed.  Not real sure what happened.

At 7:00pm was the Buck Rogers panel with Gil Gerard, Erin Gray and James Cawley.  I got there around 6:30pm.  I noticed that James Cawley was in the back of the room.  We got to chatting about the new Buck Rogers web series.    A few minutes later Gil and Erin arrived.  Here is a brief video clip during the panel.

It was announced during the panel that Gil would play Buck Rogers' Father and Erin would play his Mother in the upcoming web series - Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.  Also they went on to say that both Gil and Erin would have roles in the "25th Century" - Gil would be Buck's Commander - I did not catch exactly what role Erin would play.  After the panel, I had a couple of photos made with Gil and James.  Erin escaped.

I met Roger Manley for breakfast at the Sheraton.  Here we are at the Sheraton after breakfast

.

I then had to take "Theo" to the Walk of Fame and get him setup on Gil's table.  Once I got "Theo" setup, Roger and I caught glimpses of the DragonCon Parade.

Afterwards we headed to the vendor room and met up with another member of the Trek Prop Zone forum - Roger R.  It was about lunch time, so we went to eat at Durango's Steakhouse.

Later on at the Walk of Fame, I got a picture with Dwight Schultz of "The A Team.

Here are a few pictures of costumes I saw during the con...

At 7:00pm, the Star Trek Phase II panel begin.  They took questions from the audience.  At the end of the panel, they showed the teaser trailer for "Kitumba" which Gil Gerard made a cameo appearance.  That episode will most likely be out next fall.  Following the trailer, they showed the premier of "The Child" which is not quite finished.

Again Roger and I met for breakfast at the Sheraton Sunday morning.  Afterwards we headed for the Marriott for Leonard Nimoy's:  Beyond Spock panel.  Again a long line for Mr. Nimoy.  You can read more about the panel here.

Following the panel, we met up with Vince from the Trek Prop Zone forum.  I then had to drop "Theo" off at Gil Gerard's table.  I then got a bite to eat and by the time I had finished eating, the line to Patrick Stewart's panel was really long.  I waited for a few moments, but they kept coming and coming.  I opted to miss his panel.  I headed for the Walk of Fame.  I got a couple of autographs for friends of mine.

I headed for the Walk of Fame.  I got a couple of autographs for friends of mine.  I also got a picture made with John Schnieder  of Smallville and The Dukes of Hazard.

I got an autograph from James Marsters for my sister, niece and nephew.  I then had to head down for a photo-op with Erin Gray and Dirk Benedict.  Unfortunately they canceled Erin's photo op.  Dirk was delayed a bit, but he eventually showed up and I was able to get a professionally taken picture.

I then headed back to the Walk of Fame to pick up "Theo" and had the opportunity to take a couple of pictures with Gil, Erin and James and another picture with Gil and "Theo".

Monday was pretty much a free day.  I spent some time looking in the Vender room and in the Exhibition halls.
