Review of Street Hawk The Complete Series on DVD for the first time

I have just finished watching the complete Street Hawk DVD set with the exception of the unbroadcasted pilot which is essentially that same as the pilot that aired with the exception of Street Hawk with different firepower.  The quality of the unbroadcasted pilot is VHS.

I will not go into the stories in this review just general information, packaging, extras and video/audio quality.  If you would like to know more about the stories, click here.

The set contains the original pilot episode and all 12 Street Hawk episodes which originally aired on ABC in 1985 from January to May.  Street Hawk starred Rex Smith as Jesse Mach, Joe Regalbuto as Norman Tuttle, Jeannie Wilson as Rachel Adams and Richard Venture as Lt. Cmdr. Leo Altobelli.  The series guest starred some notable actors/actresses – George Clooney, Marjoe Gortner, Sybill Danning, James Whitemore, Jr., Keye Luke, Charles Napier, Belinda Montgomery, Bibi Besch and Dennis Franz.

The video and audio quality is excellent.  I do wished the audio had a Dolby 5.1 mix that would make it perfect for Tangerine Dream’s score.

The DVD packaging is excellent.  The set has a total for 4 DVDs and inlcudes an eight page collector’s booklet giving a synopsis for each episode. On some releases, they utilize a DVD case that has one DVD on top of another which has the potential of damaging the DVD.  This case is different there is one DVD on the left side, one DVD on each side of the tray and one DVD on the right side of the case.

Also included in this release is a new Documentary, Street Hawk The Making of a Legend, featuring Rex Smith, Joe Regalbuto and Jeannie Wilson. Its always interesting to see how the casts looks present day vs. 25 years ago.

My only problem with the DVD set is that they omitted some of the tracks like Born in the USA which I think was originally done as an instrumental on one of the episodes.  I’m assuming this is due to licensing issues.  Other than that, I think this DVD set is a must have  for any Street Hawk fan.
